She simply can't get over him, always playing with him. >> I'll help you out if you need the advice. Because there is alot of stuff you can buy for beardies, but alot of that stuff you don't want to buy. Your best bet is to buy them when they are a month old, or buy an older one from someone, but make sure they properly took care of there beardie if they have so.
But if you get a baby, find one that is about 5-7 inches long. Generally that should be about a month to 2 months old. They should be over a foot long once they've reached adolescents(8months-1 year). Also best advice is to get a male, unless you want to deal with female laying infertile eggs, and possibly eating her own eggs if they are not removed quickly enough(it DOES happen, they do it to get there calcium back but it can cause impaction).
Get a 20g tank, buy a screen or make your own screen. DO NOT BUY THOSE STARTER KITS.
Heres what you should get
20g tank
Flukers Clamp Lamp; 8.5"
Reptisun 10.0 TUBE UVB(DO NOT BUY COIL, IT WILL BURN THE BEARDED DRAGONS EYES; ONLY REPTI SUN NOT REPTI GLO)
The Reptisun or ZooMed for the Tube Light
You can just use Newspaper for the ground(NEVER USE SAND, ESPECIALLY CALCI-SAND IF THEY UNDER A YEAR OLD, THEY CAN EAT THE SAND AND CAUSE IMPACTION. AND NEVER EVER USE CALCI-SAND)
Buy turnip greens, mushroom greens, not lettuce!)
Buy crickets that are small enough to fit in the area between his eyes, any bigger can cause impaction.
Zilla food is good as well the little red pebble looking food.
Also buy 2 DIGITAL Thermometers you can easily buy those for 12$ each at walmart, to read the basking side, as well as the cool side.
Basking side needs to be between 100-110 degrees for a baby beardie
Coolside shouldn't be any colder than 75 degrees during the day or night
If so by a heat lamp at pets mart, it will give off heat, with no light. You want that because it could be hard for your beardie to sleep at night if you leave a light on for him.
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
Edit:
Also DO NOT, DO NOT HOUSE Two Beardies together wether it be Male/Male, Male/Female, or Female/Female. One will be dominant over the other, and cause the other one not to eat. Also their could be a day where you might come home and be missing toes, or even FEET, tail, etc.
Also be very weary about the ones you buy at reptile shows, they tend to like to sell sick bearded dragons, make sure when you do get one, when you have the money to(hopefully within the 3 months you have him) You can go take him to a Exotic Vet, to get his poop etc checked for parasites. When you first get him he might not eat many crickets the first few days. That is normal, also you want to get some Calcium Dust which you can buy at Petsmart or Petco.
Also I'll add you will want to feed the baby beardie in a separate enclosure, preferably one of those small carrying cages, and watch him when he eats. Because otherwise the crickets will bite him, and that could cause an infection. Feed him as many crickets as he will eat in a 15 minute span, I generally put in 2 or 3 in at a time, than wait til he eats them, then keep going from there. |

Thanks for the advice I'll follow it as well as ask the breeders in the lizard show about specific care tips toward their breeds of the dragons. |
